Extra entries earned for 2020 Worlds in Montreal

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

Extra entries earned for 2020 Worlds in Montreal

Post by Elizabeth »

As posted in the 2019 Worlds thread, extra entries for the following Worlds can be earned based on results at this Worlds based on the "formula" below.

Number of entries this year ------ To earn 3 entries the next year ------------------ To earn 2 entries the next year
--- 1 ----------------------------------- Place in the top 2 ------------------------------------ Place in the top 10
--- 2 ---------------------------------- Total placements is equal to or less than 13 ------ Total placements is equal to or less than 28*
--- 3 ---------------------------------- Top two placements is equal to or less than 13 --- Top two placements is equal to or less than 28*

*Those reaching the free program and finishing in 16th through 24th spot each get 16 points.

===========================

This means that several countries have earned 2 or (the maximum) 3 spots for 2020:
Ladies
  • 3: JPN; KAZ; RUS
  • 2: CAN; KOR; USA
Men
  • 3: JPN; USA
  • 2: CHN; CZE; ITA; RUS
Pairs
  • 3: CHN; RUS
  • 2: AUT; CAN; FRA; GER; ITA; USA
Dance
  • 3: CAN; RUS; USA
  • 2: FRA; ITA
Of course, it is possible that some of those earned spots will not actually be used as skaters have to earn the required technical minimums in order to qualify to compete at Worlds.
