ISU 2022 Adult International Figure Skating Competition - Ottawa, ON - 21-24 Sept.

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

I had originally planned to be in Nova Scotia at that time and would have missed it but, now that I'm not travelling, I will quite likely attend at least some of it. The location is literally on the other side of the (divided) highway from my neighbourhood - I could even walk if so inclined

Don Jackson is attending this event and was spotted this morning at the practice ice - the person who spotted him and posted the photo said she was "star struck" :)

I don't see any entries lists anywhere. The event website has a "marker" for the Start Orders/Results but there is nothing shown yet: https://skatecanada.ca/2022-isu-interna ... s--results

Looks like there are a lot of happy competitors at the Elizabeth Manley rink based on this photo from Skate Canada on Twitter.

With personal commitments (including a Zoom meeting) and wanting to watch the competition from Oberstdorf, I ended up only watching some of the Adult event on the streaming rather than attending in person. The videos are still on the Skate Canada event page: https://skatecanada.ca/2022-isu-interna ... -streaming

In the Saturday medal ceremonies videos you can see Don Jackson (wearing a helmet for safety), Liz Manley, and ISU Vice-President Benoit Lavoie (a Canadian) who were all on skates. The competition took place on the ice surface which bear Liz's name, as I mentioned before.

A friend who attended the first two days of the competition remarked on how well it was organized. It commended those who persevered to bring this competition to Canada and made it through three relocations, including one local rink where there ice making equipment failed.

67 Titles Awarded at ISU International Adult Figure Skating Competition
September 26, 2022/by Skate Canada

OTTAWA, ON (September 26, 2022) – Over 180 skaters from ten different nations were represented over the weekend at the ISU International Adult Figure Skating Competition, which took place from September 21-24 at Ottawa’s Bob MacQuarrie Recreation Complex. The event hosted a wide range of categories, with athletes aged in their thirties all the way to their eighties competing.

New Brunswick’s Pat Noddin, now 86 years of age, competed in the Bronze Women’s Artistic class V and left the crowd in tears as she competed on Thursday night. The event was a great showcase of the adult skating community and served as a great reminder that skating is a lifelong sport.

1988 Olympic silver medalist Elizabeth Manley and 1960 Olympic bronze medalist Donald Jackson were on site as event ambassadors, with Manley also coaching certain athletes.

“What I’m loving most about this event is that the athletes all love and support each other,” said Manley. “Normally at competitions you stay away from competitors, but these skaters are cheering each other on; it doesn’t matter if you’re from Canada, the United States or Mexico, everybody loves everybody.”

Skate Canada will be hosting a Community of Practice webinar on October 11 around the topic of Adult Skating and Skating Pathways for all ages. To register, click here.

The next ISU International Adult Competition will be held in Oberstdorf, Germany from May 15-20, 2023. For more information, visit the ISU website.
