Summer 2023 Competitions/Series events in Canada

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

I am told that Skate Ontario is making use of a new scoring software system and it will be beta tested at their event this weekend - it should allow those in the arena with smart phones/tables to access the live scoring, as well as those checking online.

A reminder that the July Skate Ontario event starts today. The links are in the post above this one for the live streams from the 2 ice surfaces in use.

A link to the Schedule: https://skateontario.org/wp-content/upl ... uly-17.pdf

The start orders & live scores are to be found on this link: https://lamp.skatecanada.ca/alex/cssWeb ... d7a8f16786

When you go to that page, look for the discipline on the list, for example if you are searing for the Junior Men's SP you would look for Podium Pathway (under Program in column 1); Singles (under Discipline in column 2); Junior Men (under Category in column 3); Short (under Groups in column 5) and then click on the button called Segments (in column 6). Once there, click on the button labelled Entries to get to the scoring sheet for the start order which should be updated with unofficial scores as the event proceeds. There will also be detailed results added. This is the page you should get to with the process described above: https://lamp.skatecanada.ca/alex/cssWeb ... d7a8f16786

For the Skate Canada NextGen event, there is a separate link to get to the start orders & results (using the same system): https://lamp.skatecanada.ca/alex/cssWeb ... aa95e7223e

This is a Beta test - the first time using this new scoring software - here's hoping all goes well!

I'm currently watching the first event of the competition - the Jr. Women Group 1 SP on my laptop. The live video is working and the scores are coming up - as they are being announced in the arena you click on "Refresh". In the final column on the right you are starting to see blue arrow type links - these will take you to the video replay of the individual skaters.

So far so good :D

Does anyone know if these sectional competitions are open to the public? The August competition at RIM park is minutes away from me, and I'd love the chance to see Lea & Trentt skate in person.

The July competition was certainly open, Kevin - there was a charge of 5 dollars per day to attend.

If you go, please give us a report :D

Thanks Elizabeth, I will! I'll check with RIM park to see if they have any information. The Skate Canada links are all information for competitors, and not for consumers.

Well, it started earlier than I thought and I tuned in later than I thought, haha. I just want to say that I'm watching the pre-novice men and I sure am impressed with Carson Chow. His presence on the ice is amazing...I'm sure we'll see more of him in the higher levels later.

For the Wild Rose event, they were running behind on their schedule today - this is from Danielle Earl, the photographer, at 3:30 p.m. ET:
About 45-50 mins behind on the Chemco rink and about 30 mins on the Aspen rink.

Oh, lol...I thought I made a mistake in my calculation. Thanks for the info. teehee!

Btw, Dailymotion is no longer available for older browsers/operating systems such as Windows Vista. I used to be able to watch it on my old, original laptop. I do of course have a newer one than THAT.

I watched some of the Quebec event - I have a particular interest in the ice dance and thought I would share the results of the Sr. Ice Dance

You might recognize the names of some teams shown as ON & QC as being international competitors who train at IAM in ON or QC :)

I will do my best! It's been quite a few years since I've been able to see any skating live and in person. I think the last time was the GP Final for the 2001-2002 season, just prior to the Salt Lake City Olympics. That was a great event.
