Six (6) ISU Members will qualify based on the scoring scale used for the ISU World Standing points (see applicable scale in sub-paragraph e) below) scored by its best 2 Women Single Skaters, best 2 Men Single Skaters, the best Pair and the best Ice Dance Couple primarily at ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating events and Final season 2022/23 and the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2023, plus possibly the ISU European Figure Skating Championships / ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships 2023, the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2023 and ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating season 2022/23.
The 6 Teams, having accumulated the highest number of points by the above-mentioned number and discipline of Skaters/Couples in the above-mentioned ISU Events and the criteria outlined below, will qualify. If a Team would qualify by points with less than the above-mentioned number and disciplines of Skater/Couples contributing to the qualification points, such Team would only be considered qualified, if points are achieved in at least 3 disciplines, otherwise the Team with the next highest amount of points fulfilling the criteria will be considered qualified. If there is a tie among Teams’ subject to qualify, the Team having earned the higher number of points at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2023 will be qualified. If a tie persists, the qualifying ISU Member will be decided by draw. The Team of the host ISU Member, if not qualified under the applicable Qualifying System, will receive a wild card entry as Team number 6 replacing the Team finishing in that place in the Standings.
Some of you may remember that Keegan Messing had "challenges" getting to the most recent Winter Olympics which caused him to miss the Team Event - he said he really wanted to participate in a team event and aimed for the WTT this year. Although Worlds 2023 was his last Worlds competition, I anticipate seeing him as part of the CDN team in Tokyo next month

Piper Gilles & Paul Poirier to Lead Team Canada at 2023 ISU World Team Trophy

OTTAWA, ON (April 6, 2023) – Eight skaters across all four disciplines will represent Canada at the 2023 ISU World Team Trophy in Tokyo, Japan from April 13 to 16, 2023. The event, which will mark the last competition of the 2022-2023 figure skating season, is reserved for the top six nations who compete in a team format with points awarded based on skaters’ placement.
Team Canada will be led by 2023 world bronze medalists and 2022 Grand Prix Final winners Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier, who will be looking for a fourth consecutive podium finish this season. They will be joined by pair national champions and Grand Prix de France gold medalists Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps, who are coming off a 4th place finish at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships.
In the singles events, two-time Olympian and 2023 national champion Keegan Messing will be competing in the last competition of his illustrious career. Stephen Gogolev, 2019 Junior Grand Prix Final champion and 4th at the 2023 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships, will also be representing Canada in the men’s event. The women’s field will feature two-time national champion and Olympian Madeline Schizas, as well as 2023 Skate Canada Challenge bronze medalist Sara-Maude Dupuis.
The competition starts on Thursday, April 13, with rhythm dance and the men’s and women’s short programs. Friday will feature the pair short program, the free dance, and the women’s free program. Competition ends on Saturday, April 15, with the pair and men’s free programs. The Gala Exhibition will take place on Sunday.
Shoma Uno will not compete at World Team Trophy 2023, as he has a right-ankle injury that is expected to take two weeks of rest to heal.
He will be replaced by Shun Sato.

In a surprise move, Miki Ando is acting as Matteo Rizzo’s coach at WTT, as his regular coaches weren’t available. This is the first time Miki has attended an international event as coach.
Matteo’s father, Valter Rizzo, was Miki’s final coach during her competitive career.

There was a lot of emotion for Keegan's last competitive skate - it may be the last for some of the other competitors but they haven't announced it yet.
