NHK Trophy (ISU GP#4) - 12-14 Nov. 2021 -Tokyo, JPN

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

According to press reports from Russia, there has been another withdrawal from the Women's already reduced field - Alexandra Trusova, who is rehabilitating a stress fracture in her foot that impacted her skating at Skate America. She was not among the Russian skaters and coaches who left for Tokyo, signalling that she won't compete there.

There is still time for the Japanese Federation to name another Japanese skater to fill the spot left open by Rika Kihira. They have been having sectional competitions recently and may name someone now that they are finished.

Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker have withdrawn from NHK Trophy due to injury, U.S. Figure Skating announced Sunday. NHK Trophy, set for Nov. 11-14, 2021 in Tokyo, is the fourth stop of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series.

Hawayek is recovering from a concussion sustained while training earlier this season. The tandem has three Grand Prix Series medals, including gold at 2018 NHK Trophy.
Best wishes to Kaitlin in her recovery :(

As a bit of a warm-up, Nam competed his short program at the recent Ontario sectionals and he is reported to have skated it very well.

The ISU YouTube channel now has the links up for the individual events at NHK Trophy: https://www.youtube.com/c/SkatingISU

This is another of those competitions that will be happening overnight in the Eastern time zone. The good news, of course, is that the YouTube links remain available to watch later :)

Sadly, another young Russian woman is apparently now out of the skating for the rest of the season - Daria Usacheva has a serious ligament injury in her leg (involving her hip) that caused her to withdraw during the warm-up at NHK, after a fall. She was carried off the ice/out of the arena. According to an orthopedic surgeon, she is likely to be off the ice for a couple of months. There is some discussion about the fact that she may have had a previous injury that may have been exacerbated.

The official word is that Daria has a trochanteric avulsion fracture which is essentially, by definition, a hip fracture, which involves a ligament/muscle snapping away with a small part of the bone attached to it.

The Japanese Federation has removed the results from the page since the event is completed but there is the ability, at the top of the page, to open/download a full "protocol" on the event complete with medal podium photos: http://www.isuresults.com/results/season2122/gpjpn2021/
