Torvill & Dean memories in Christmas ad

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

Torvill & Dean memories in Christmas ad

The Asda supermarket chain in England was inspired to "put Christmas on Ice" in their annual Christmas TV ad for this year.

The campaign has been dubbed ‘Asda on Ice,’ with a 60-second ad, which will run from November 5, sitting at its heart.

The spot follows a family gliding through a series of Christmas moments; from the school Christmas play to festive dinners and the office party. The whole thing plays out to Boléro – made world-famous by Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean’s 1984 Winter Olympics routine.

Asda, and its creative agency Havas, even hired three-time Dancing on Ice winner and the show’s current associate creative director, Daniel Whiston, to choreograph the advert.

“Given families were forced to put Christmas ‘on ice’ last year, we thought it was only right we did the same this time around – literally,” said Vicki Maguire, chief creative officer at Havas London.

Torvill & Dean continue to be involved with the UK TV series "Dancing on Ice" - a new series is getting ready to start. One of the "professionals" will be Mark Hanretty who has been providing some ISU commentary during the GP series.
