ISU GP - Skate Canada International 2017 - Oct. 27-29

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

Jamie Salé & David Pelletier have been named athlete ambassadors for Skate Canada International 2017: https://skatecanada.ca/2017/10/jamie-sa ... rnational/

An extract:
“I am thrilled to be co-ambassador with my partner David Pelletier for this years’ Skate Canada! I look forward to being a part of the skating family again and seeing some wonderful competition,” expressed Salé.

“We are very honoured to be back at Skate Canada International as athlete ambassadors. It is a competition we grew up watching and has a great history of fantastic skating. It is also where Jamie and I debuted as a team on the international circuit. We are very excited to be watching the best skaters in the world getting ready for their Olympic journey,” added Pelletier.

This quote from the article really hit home with me. It's kinda how I feel about what they do every year.....
Somehow, they handled all of this while doing a show in Italy. They used one of their routines to “practice” their short program, more or less. They skated basically the same program, to different music.

According to sports reporter Lori Ewing on Twitter, Weaver & Poje have announced that they’re going back to their popular 2010/11 free dance to “Je Suis Malade". I've checked their ISU biography and that is indeed now listed. That's one of my favourite programs of theirs so I'm pleased.

Here's Bev Smith's article on this change: https://bevsmithwrites.wordpress.com/20 ... is-malade/

Jamie & David, the Athlete Ambassadors for SCI 2017, spent some time today with the Canadian pairs competing in Regina - watch the 15 minute video here: https://skatecanada.ca/2017/10/sci17-ja ... pelletier/

Who remembers their Orchid routine seen in the GPF but dropped before the Olympics in favour of the return of Love Story?

Just watched the Pairs Group 1 practice, and Lubov & Dylan had a great one! A beautiful triple salchow and triple toe/double to from Lubov as well as a really good throw QUAD salchow with the tiniest of hand down. This is going to be a fun competition to watch. They look ready!

I remember the Orchid routine well. In fact, I was at the GPF that year and saw it live!

I was there too :)
Other memorable things/events - a snow storm; the arena running out of food; all the young ladies in one warm-up group coming out in blue costumes with one of them changing before competing (into white, I believe); one ice dancer (who came to be known for her death stare) wearing and "swishing" a long skirt, apparently to distract from a partner who wasn't doing much with his feet :)

TSN has a figure skating page with lots of "snippets" regarding Skate Canada International: http://www.tsn.ca/figure-skating

Among other items there's a video with Weaver & Poje about their change of FD.

You know more than I do and I'm here!
Dave told us about Patrick. And I bought a calendar from him.
Re practices
Pairs are amazing. Will be very exciting competition. Loving the French
Patrick did show for second session and couldn't land anything
Tessa and Scott just perfect and such a joy to watch live.
I'm having a terrible time typing so that's it. Enjoy today!
