ISU international competitions 2019-20 season

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

ISU international competitions 2019-20 season

Post by Elizabeth »

The official list has been published: https://www.isu.org/inside-isu/isu-comm ... -2250/file

The list includes single & pairs, ice dance, and synchro events. Note that the table shows the disciplines included in each competition. The number of them including pairs is definitely limited.

Re: Challenger Series change

There is more information on the Grand Prix series - senior & junior - in separate threads.

This is the list of Challenger Series events as originally announced:
  • Autumn Classic International Oakville, ON / CAN - Sep 12-14, 2019
  • Lombardia Trophy Bergamo / ITA - Sep 13-15, 2019
  • U.S. International Figure Skating Classic Salt Lake City / USA - Sep 17-22, 2019 [including Pair Skating]
  • Nepela Memorial 2019 Bratislava / SVK - Sep 19-21, 2019
  • Nebelhorn Trophy Oberstdorf / GER - Sep 25-28, 2019 [including Pair Skating]
  • Finlandia Trophy Espoo / FIN - Oct 11-13, 2019 [including Pair Skating]
  • Ice Star Minsk / BLR - Oct 18-20, 2019
  • Asian Open Figure Skating Classic Taipei City / TPE - Oct 30-Nov 3, 2019
  • Warsaw Cup Warsaw / POL - Nov 14-17, 2019 [including Pair Skating]
  • Golden Spin of Zagreb Zagreb / CRO - Dec 4-7, 2019 [including Pair Skating]
It has now been announced by the ISU that the Asian Open event will no longer be hosted by the Taiwan association or held in Taipei. It will now be hosted by the Hong Kong association and held in Dongguan,CHN.

The official ISU statement about the change from https://www.isu.org/isu-news/news/145-n ... teParam=15:
24 July 2019 Lausanne, Switzerland

Every season the ISU invites its Members to send applications to host events as part of the Challenger Series (see ISU Communication 2227). For the season 2019/20 two applications from Asia were received, Taipei and Hong Kong, to host an event as part of the Series. During its meeting last March, the ISU Council decided to include the event proposed by the Chinese Taipei Skating Union to be held in Taipei City mostly due to more suitable dates (See ISU Communication 2234).

However at the end of May, the ISU received indications from several ISU Asian Member Federations including the Chinese Taipei Skating Union that it would be preferable to host this event in another Asian country.

The ISU invited the interested Asian Members to consult each other and agree upon the most suitable host city. As a result and with the specific agreement of the Chinese Taipei Skating Union, it was finally decided that this Challenger Series event would be hosted by the Hong Kong Skating Union Limited to be held in Dongguan City / CHN on Oct. 30-Nov 3, 2019.

The Challenger Series gives the opportunity to many Skaters who have not been invited to participate in the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, to compete at the international Senior level, earn World standing points, prepare to qualify and potentially compete in ISU Championships. A Challenger Series event was held for the first time in 2018/19 in an Asian country and the ISU aims to continue to provide the same opportunities to Skaters in Asia by including at least one Challenger Series event per season in the region.
