ISU 2019 Four Continents Championships - 4-10 Feb. in Anaheim, CA, USA

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

Thanks for all the info. Just to let you know, the Ladies entry link above is the same as the Men's.

I'm looking forward to the streaming on Thursday.

Kitty - those links are no longer really relevant as the start order link is now active. I will correct it however.

Rika Kihira jammed the ring finger on her left hand into a hole in the ice in practice earlier in the week. An x-ray revealed a dislocation of the interphalangeal joint. She intends to compete here despite the injury.

An unfortunate skate for Alaine Chartrand :(

She landed 2A, 2Lz2T*, 2Lo* - the * indicates no value/illegal element - the second solo jump has to be a triple and the combination has to be at least 2-3/3-2.

She is next to last with the final warm-up group to skate and is some 9 points behind the other two Canadian ladies.

Fortunately, with only 22 skaters, everyone will qualify for the FS.

A quote from Nam after his short program:
Nam Nguyen in mixed zone: Injured his ankle this week when he picked through thin practice ice into concrete.
😨
He cannot do all his jumps right now but is trying to push through & finish the event.

It really is very sad about Alaine. Thanks for the explanation. I was thinking...did she do ANY triples? I guess not. :( It must be so hard to be in the public eye and fail in front of everyone. Well, it comes to most skaters at one time or other. I will try to watch some of it, and should be able to see her program. I will put it in my bedroom and perhaps will see more of it before I drift off.

I'm also very sorry to hear about Nam. That's really too bad.

Speaking of qualifying, I would not want to be that one man to not make the free skate.

There were a few skaters who skated to the music from Somewhere in Time...such a beautiful piece. That's one of my favourites...such a haunting musical piece as well. The writer said that he wrote it after his parents died very close together. I can hear sadness & happiness in there...mixed together. Skating programs is where I first heard that music actually. I finally saw the movie and I was hooked! Such a cult classic! In many ways the music made the film successful.

Wow - what a lot of movement between the SP standings and the final standings for the ladies!!

FACT: For the first time in Four Continents history, none of the three skaters who finished top three after the short ended up in the top three overall - this is for all disciplines :o

More history was made - no woman from Kazakhstan has ever won a medal at an ISU Championship ... until today :o

Check out the US Figure Skating YouTube channel for the Bridgestone Ice Desk episodes from 4CC: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_rE3b ... 3O_bynaGxA

There are pre-event episodes as well as mid-event, and post-event wrap-up ones for the various disciplines.

Well the 4CC is over for another season (except for this evening's gala) - there were several Canadian medals and some surprises, especially in today's free dance. The final warm-up group in the men's FS was definitely exciting last night/early this morning.

I was happy to be able to squeeze in watching The Thank You Canada Tour broadcast between the dance victory ceremony and that gala :)

Here's the planned "running list" for the Gala (thanks to Jackie Wong via Twitter) - it contains "spoilers" :) : Image
