Illness & injuries caused Elizaveta Tuktamysheva and Sergei Voronov to withdraw before the competition began; Mikhail Kolyada was competing with a sinus infection and considered withdrawing, even seeing the doctor after the SP.

Some of the skaters who competed at the JGPF in Vancouver are making their marks as senior skaters at this event.

Evgenia Medvedeva unveiled a new SP to Tosca, choreographed by Misha Ge in just 2 weeks. Unfortunately, she missed the combination and had a fall but it's obvious that she's still well loved by the fans (especially the reaction while she was waiting for her marks) in this video: https://youtu.be/eW2mZaAa61w

What a dramatic finish to Russian nationals in the ladies free skate! Choices for entries at Europeans and Worlds should be challenging and may rely on another domestic event in February.

The Russian Federation has a junior nationals but also permits juniors to compete for the (senior) national championship - today three juniors filled out the senior podium! None are age-eligible for Europeans or Worlds but two of them landed quad lutzes!! There was only 0.07 between first and second.





Evgenia Medvedeva skated her FS with confidence not seen yet this season; it was not perfect but she placed 4th in the FS and moved up from 12th to 7th overall. It has been announced that Team Russia - Ladies for the European Championships will consist of Alina Zagitova and Stanislava Konstantinova; the third spot will be decided by the coaching council and the Russian Federation.
