Status update (sort of) on Yuzuru Hanyu

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

Medical tests to determine if Hanyu returns this year

Grenoble, France - Figure skating superstar Yuzuru Hanyu will decide whether he will compete again this year based on the results of medical tests he is undergoing in Japan, his coach Brian Orser said Wednesday.
Orser said the 23-year-old is still in doubt for the Dec. 6-8 Grand Prix Final in Vancouver and the Dec. 21-24 national championships in Osaka, which doubles as a qualifier for next year's world championships in Saitama.

The Canadian coach is awaiting news from his skater who has returned to Japan to undergo medical evaluation. Orser says no decision has been made on when Hanyu will return to his Toronto training base.

Oh, too bad for Yuzuru. And also for the spectators at the GPF. But his health is the most important thing.

It became official on November 27th - Yuzuru withdrew from the GPF and is not expected to compete at the Japanese Nationals later in December.

It is possible that he might choose to compete at the 4 Continents Championships but it is more likely that he would wait for 2019 Worlds in Saitama, Japan. I presume that his Federation would give him a "bye" despite not competing at Nationals.

In the meantime, there is a podcast interview of Brian Orser done in Vancouver by Meryl Davis - he talks about Yuzuru and other students: https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/stori ... gn=-owned_
