Patrick Chan - over the years

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

Well, those two coaches in his early life were the driving force behind his success over the years. I just think he lost his way after Sochi or even before, wandering from coach to coach who in my humble opinion weren't good choices for him. On to the rest of your life Patrick.

That first interview was great. It really shows how Patrick brought the old school back into the present and really showed the value of great actual SKATING, which seems to be lost today. I didn't realize Lori Nichol was a student of Don Laws as well, but that makes a lot of sense to me now.

I see that Patrick now has earned his coaching credentials, so I hope that he can continue to share the knowledge that he gained from those past guru's with our future generations.

I agree. I was very glad to hear that he is considering coaching. I think he'd be good at this. He's an artist, and at times fans were frustrated with his responses to things, but this comes with the territory. Creative people tend to be sensitive and feel things very deeply. I think both those qualities will make him an excellent coach.

Well said! I'd say he would do very well to simply open a "Skating Skills" school that everyone nationally could tap into. Don't even bother with jumps. Get someone out there who can still SKATE with line, flow, and power to show them all how it's done.
