2022 Winter Olympics - Beijing, China - February 4-20 - mainly figure skating news

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

From Twitter this morning:
Skate Canada officials say Keegan Messing has passed two covid tests. Has to pass two more before he can fly to Beijing. Finding him a flight that goes through one of the required four global hubs also a nightmare.
He is NOT on a plane yet but they remain hopeful.
I've read they are going to try to get him on a plane tomorrow. Perhaps that's overly optimistic if he still has to pass two more COVID tests.

I believe that some of the Canadian curlers may be leaving on that time frame - the testing has to be done within a specific # of hours prior to flight and then again on arrival. Keeping my fingers crossed for Keegan!

An update on Keegan's "Olympic adventure" indicates that, with an additional negative test (in Montreal!) he could arrive just in time to compete in the Men's individual event!

PJ Kwong is now posting a blog on behalf of Skate Ontario - the first page is here: https://skateontario.org/2022olympics/

PJ is in Beijing doing a job she has done at many events around the world and she has been adding updates on the competition.

Check it out.

Also PJ and her 2 partners (Mazin Thomas & Charlene Bailey) continue to do their 3Turn3 video on behalf of Skate Ontario interviews every week. They are live, generally on Fridays @ 10 a.m. ET, but can be watched later on YouTube (and other platforms) - this past Friday they talked to Carol Lane https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWM8kevNJPg; coming up on Friday Feb. 11th it will be Kurt Browning.

Poor Keegan and his skates going missing all the time...travel must be so stressful for skaters. He sure has a good attitude though. He's very strong mentally, sort of like Elvis Stojko in my opinion. It leads to him going with the flow and consistent performances.
