ISU Junior Grand Prix 2022-2023 begins with Event #1 - Courcheval, FRA - 24-27 August

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

A second JGP event was scheduled to take place in Grenoble, FRA Sept. 28-Oct. 1, 2022 - it was announced today that this has now been rescheduled for Gdansk, POL which means there will be two events there, back-to-back, the 5th and 6th.

From: https://www.isu.org/figure-skating/news ... teParam=15
The ISU was informed by the Fédération Française des Sports de Glace (FFSG) of the cancellation of the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating event that was scheduled to take place from September 28 to October 1, 2022 in Grenoble (FRA). The Council decided to reallocate the event to Gdansk (POL) following a spontaneous application.

The ISU regrets that the hosting of the Event will not be in Grenoble as originally scheduled but is pleased that the event will take place in Gdansk and thanks the FFSG and Polish Figure Skating Association for their efforts and cooperation.

In a video on Twitter, Ted Barton confirms that he will be hosting the commentary on the ISU JGP YouTube channel but mentions being joined by a special member of the team. I have to wonder if it will be someone who can add knowledge on the ice dance side, an area where Ted admits he is less knowledgeable.

And I was right in my guess/hope - Mark Hanratty will be joining Ted on the JGP broadcasts according to this tweet from the ISU: https://twitter.com/ISU_Figure/status/1 ... 7591863298

IFS Magazine recently had an article on Mark: https://ifsmagazine.com/mark-hanretty-t ... nd-the-mic

I'm enjoying the pairing of Ted & Mark - no commentary during the performances, just as we have come to expect with Ted, but positive and constructive commentary afterward. They seem to make a good team :)

The CDN entries in the Jr Women and Jr Men SPs each ended up in the top 12, putting them each in the penultimate group for the FS. The scores are generally quite "bunched up" and I expect lots of movement of positions in the FS. It is the first competition of the JGP season and it is happening at altitude - lack of training and stamina issues caught up with many of the skaters today.

As expected, there have been lots of changes of position in the overall results based on the Jr Women's free skates so far. We are up to the last 2 groups, the first of which includes Lia Pereira from CAN.

Ted and Mark have explained that they are together at the rink for this JGP event and will be together again for one or two more. For the others, it seems that they will take turns "team broadcasting" with one being in the arena and one at home (or in a studio at home). I think Mark said that he will have to miss one event, leaving Ted on his own. They really seem to work well as a team - I'm enjoying this new approach :)

Tough outings for a number of the skaters in this first JGP and at altitude. One skater (representing Peru) even had to compete in borrowed skates as hers did not arrive! The medals were awarded to the Junior Women at the end of today's competition.

If you don't want to watch everything, the ISU has a Day 2 Highlights video on their JGP YouTube channel: https://t.co/CBEyw1OkUH

You'll also find one there for Day 1.

Tomorrow, there will be an early start (5:30 a.m. EDT) for the Jr. Men FS followed by the Free Dance. A Gala is scheduled to close out the competition tomorrow afternoon. All the video links are on the YouTube channel.

The Junior Men started extra early this morning and, once again, there were some changes in position from the results after the short program.

The early season and high altitude seemed to combine to drain the performances of many of the skaters - I think there was a record number of falls :(

Our Canadian Junior Man, David Li (below), moved up in the standings, ending up in the top 10, matching the top 10 finish for our Junior Woman :)
