Cancelled Worlds 2020 would have opened today - a suggestion for you

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

Cancelled: ISU World Figure Skating Championships® 2020

With the uncertainty surrounding the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Skate Canada and the International Skating Union (ISU), were informed today by the Government of Quebec that they have cancelled the

ISU World Figure Skating Championships® 2020. The event was scheduled to take place from March 16-22, 2020 in Montreal at Centre Bell.

Skate Canada and the International Skating Union (ISU) have closely monitored the provincial and federal health authorities position on the spread of the virus and fully respect the difficult decision made today. Like the authorities, Skate Canada and the ISU are committed to the health and safety of the athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and spectators.

Many stakeholders have been affected by the cancellation of the world championships, and Skate Canada and the ISU will be communicating directly with each group in the coming days. Any fan who has purchased tickets directly from the official ticket provider Evenko will receive details on the refund process in due course.

Skate Canada, in partnership with the local organizing committee, Patinage Quebec and all our partners, looked forward to hosting figure skating’s flagship event in Montreal. We thank you all for your efforts and commitment as we prepared to deliver a world-class event.

Statement from the ISU: https://isu.org/isu-news/news/145-news/ ... teParam=15
11 March 2020

Lausanne, Switzerland

With the uncertainty surrounding the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Skate Canada and the International Skating Union (ISU), were informed today by the Government of Quebec that they have decided to cancel the ISU World Figure Skating Championships® 2020. The event was scheduled to take place from March 16-22, 2020 in Montreal at Centre Bell.

The ISU and Skate Canada and have closely monitored the provincial and federal health authorities’ position on the spread of the virus and fully respect the difficult decision made today. Like the authorities, the ISU and Skate Canada are committed to the health and safety of the athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and spectators.

The ISU therefore is unable to hold the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2020 at the above-mentioned planned date. The ISU thanks Skate Canada and all the partners involved in the preparation of the Event and for their cooperation during the critical monitoring phase leading up to this decision.

Many stakeholders have been affected by the cancellation of the World Championships, the ISU and Skate Canada will be communicating directly with each group in the coming days. Any fan who has purchased tickets directly from the official ticket provider Evenko will receive details on the refund process in due course.

Considering the current uncertain developments surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic, a rescheduling and/or relocation of the above-mentioned Championships within the current season, even if the season would be extended by several weeks after its normal end in early April, cannot be reasonably considered. During the coming weeks, the ISU will evaluate in cooperation with all stakeholders whether the ISU World Figure Skating Championships 2020 could possibly be held later in the year, but in any case not before October 2020. Before taking a final decision, the ISU will remain in close contact with Skate Canada and ISU Members.

The ISU regrets that the most important Figure Skating Event of the season cannot be held as planned but the ISU also understands that the safety and wellbeing of all participants and the community take precedence and is sure that ISU Members, Skaters and fans will understand this decision.

Cancelled Worlds 2020 would have opened today - a suggestion for you

Especially for those of us who expected to be watching the first events of the 2020 ISU Figure Skating Championships in Montreal today, I've made a list of the CDN Olympic medalists who were to be part of a special performance during the opening ceremonies, choreographed by Jeffrey Buttle. Why not find favourite performances of these skaters/teams on YouTube as part of your viewing today?

From the Skate Canada press release: Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir; Meagan Duhamel & Eric Radford; Kaetlyn Osmond; Patrick Chan; Joannie Rochette; Elvis Stojko; and Kurt Browning. And from the synchro side, Les Supremes and Nova Senior were supposed to be competing at Synchro Worlds in Lake Placid which was also cancelled.

Wearing my "Thank You Canada Tour" sweatshirt, I'll post a couple to start...
