With changes in program length and in the scoring that come into effect for this season, including the use of GOE of -5 to +5, all the established scoring records are now history.

As new ISU-sanctioned events (both junior and senior) take place this season, new records will be set (and broken)

That seems such a shame - just after I was starting to get a grip on what a "good" score was in each event.....

A GOE of -5 to +5 is staring to look like a subjective call and allows for judges to cheat without any real detection mechanism. Judging a skating event is never easy, but creeping biases could be hidden in the method.

The application of the 2nd mark has always had subjectivity, regardless of whether it was -3 to +3 for the GOE factor or the -5 to +5. This just increases the "range" of GOE available. There are supposed to be "key points" that relate to the GOE given but I suspect there will need to be a lot of review of scoring this season - some of this done by computer comparisons between judges, as I understand it. Just within a pre-novice ladies event at the Ontario competition this weekend I saw a very wide range of GOE scoring between judges for a single skater.
