Exciting prospects for skating in this Olympics. Oh, and I need a snack from the Kitchen.

The anticipation was palpable, with an unusually high media turnout for an official practice. As the clock ticked down to 7:05 p.m. local time, when the session was to begin, the air became similar to that of a Muhammad Ali heavyweight title fight back in the day as people waited to watch the champ climb through the ropes and into the ring.

Hanyu went through a light workout for 15 minutes that primarily involved strokes and just a couple of jumps, before departing. He attempted no quads during his time on the ice. He did not appear to be in any distress or favoring any part of his body.

Practice notes: Yuzuru Hanyu: 1T, 1Lo, 1F, 1Lz, waltz jump, 3A, bow.

Hanyu: It has been 3 mos since I was injured. There were times when I was only able to watch skating and not be able to skate myself. It was very difficult, so I am very grateful I'm here at the Olympic Games. I want to focus and show what I can do.

Hanyu: While I was injured, even after the New Year's, I got a lot of supporting messages. I want to thank everyone for it. I want to let them know that I appreciate every message and they gave me the power to go on

Hanyu: I feel so grateful that so many people are watching me skate. It can be pressure - I want to accept it and turn it into energy. I want to show the people the performance that makes them feel like it was worth the wait

Hanyu: I was training off ice during my injury, so when I came back, I still knew what it was like to jump. I started doing 3A about 3 weeks ago and quads about 2 weeks ago

Hanyu: There are many coaches in our club. I was mainly training with Tracy Wilson and Ghislain Briand [when Brian Orser was here in South Korea]

Hanyu: I don't feel the injury particularly made me stronger. But when I wasn't skating, I did a lot of off-ice training and I thought about a lot of things that I wouldn't have done otherwise. I don't feel like the last two months were a waste

Hanyu: I wasn't thinking about whether or not I could come back; at NHK, I wanted to skate but my ankle wasn't cooperating; after 2 months, there were times when I didn't know I could keep skating. But I can skate now, so that's all that matters.

Hanyu: I'm happy to be here in Korea, and I'm still getting my conditioning up. There are elements that I haven't tried yet. I have a plan, and I want to peak at the right time.

Hanyu: It's hard to say about the quad loop. I have to have a wise strategy - I really believe that I can win with a clean performance. I have many options; what ends up in the program will be determined as I get my conditioning up [in the next few days]

Hanyu: When I came back to training, my biggest concern was stamina and getting back the feeling of the ice. I had some uncertainty, but I'm here and I'm ready for the Olympics. I'm not worrying about too many things now

Overall some very good skating under phenomenal pressure.

Sui/Han teamed up in 2007 without having previous pair skating experience. They both are inspired by 2010 Olympic Champions Xue Shen/Hongbo Zhao and started skating after watching them competing at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. Zhao is now their coach. Sui/Han have landed throw quadruple Salchows and quadruple twists in competition. The couple missed most of the 2012/13 season as Sui was recovering from epiphysitis. They also missed the first half of the 2016/17 season as she underwent surgery on both feet in spring 2016.
