ISU GP 2024/25 Event #6 - Cup of China, Chongqing / CHN - 22 Nov - 24 Nov, 2024

The final event of this season's ISU Grand Prix series takes place this weekend. The results will determine the final qualifies for the Grand Prix Final to take place in Grenoble, FRA in December.

Six Canadian Skaters to Compete in China at the Last Grand Prix of the Season
November 18, 2024/by Skate Canada

OTTAWA, ON (November 18, 2024) – The sixth ISU Grand Prix event of the season takes place in Chongqing, China from November 22-24, 2024, and will see Canadian competitors in all four disciplines. The Cup of China will be the last stop on the series tour before qualifying athletes travel to France for the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in December.

Men’s National Champion, Wesley Chiu, will seek to improve both programs after finishing ninth at Skate America at the start of the circuit. In the women’s event, two-time National Champion, Madeline Schizas, will aim to skate into a podium position following a strong fifth-place finish at Skate Canada International (SCI).

In the ice dance competition, SCI silver medallists Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha will look to capture their second medal of the season and secure their spot in the Grand Prix Final. Pairs team Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud will apply lessons learned from the Grand Prix de France where they finished in fifth place.

As this last event is about to begin, all eyes are on the additional possible qualifiers to the GPF - Jackie Wong (Rockerskating) has published the various scenarios for each of the disciplines: https://www.rockerskating.com/news/2024 ... -scenarios

The one of the most interest to Canadian fans would be the possibility of Lajoie & Lagha making the top 6 in the standings - this would definitely happen if they were to finish in the top 2 at the Cup of China.

An updated start order (below) shows that Wesley Chiu 🇨🇦 withdrew from the competition - this was reported to have been due to injury.
From Golden Skate on X: "He had a bad fall during yesterday’s official practice. We were told he still wanted to try and compete here but decided to withdraw after this morning’s practice. Wishing Wesley a speedy recovery!"
