Saturday began with arrival at the rink to confirm that the much complained about flags have been moved and were no longer blocking people's view of the big screen. There was much relief expressed among the fans.

The competition began with the women and the ice dancers. There was quite a lot of movement in the standings between the SP and the final result for the Women but very little movement in the dance.

The second part of the day was for the Pairs and the Men. It was announced that 🇩🇪 Alisa Efimova / Ruben Blommaert had withdrawn from the Free Skate due to medical reasons :(

A little bit of history was made in Pairs - a first gold medal in a GP for Japan, ever :D

Skate Canada's Dailymotion channel has videos from Skate Canada International including from today's Gala - see them here (in English or in French): https://www.dailymotion.com/skatecanada/videos

Here's a "wrap up" article on SCI: https://www.cbc.ca/sports/olympics/broa ... -1.6634317

I enjoyed it all and am happy to report that I am back home in Ottawa safely :)

Thank you Elizabeth for all the info and photos. Now that you’re safely home, and once you’ve had a good night’s sleep, I’d love to have your comments. Wishing I’d been present for a few of those skates.

Japan's team was very successful - 4 medals in 3 disciplines. There was great fan support for all their skaters with many Japanese flags on display.

Introducing Wyatt Messing in person (not just a photo on Keegan's phone in the Kiss 'n Cry) ...

Image

Keegan brought out his son at the end of the Gala - at one point Wyatt even waved to the fans as he was carried around the rink.

After the short program Keegan showed off the sonogram photos of baby #2 from the Kiss 'n Cry - birth is scheduled midway through Canadians!!

It was great to be back at a live event and it was obvious that the skaters enjoyed having fans present.
I was a bit disappointed in some of the skates but realized that it is early in a post-Olympic season.
Some skaters performed pretty much as I expected while others exceeded expectations.
Being a long-time ice dance fan, I particularly enjoyed that part of the competition, especially the new programs from Piper and Paul :D
Given her recent injury and their short period of training, I was overjoyed at the success of the Japanese pairs.
It was nice to see a wide variety of countries represented and many folks commented that we weren't missing the Russians whose presence would have prevented some of those others from being invited.
We were not impressed by the original placement of the many national flags, however, and very happy when they were moved between the first and second day of competition, as I posted about already :)

I have added in links to the CBC streams of each of the events in my original (late night/early morning) posts above. I haven't (yet) watched any of them to hear any commentary and I didn't record any of the TV coverage.
