The Grand Prix for the seniors is about to begin this week, with Skate America in Allen, TX.
The Junior Grand Prix is complete for another season and the top 6 qualifiers in each of the 4 disciplines plus the top 3 alternates have now been determined through the results of the 7 Junior Grand Prix events. Five Canadian Teams Qualify for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final

OTTAWA, ON (November 26, 2024) – The 2024 Grand Prix season draws to a close next week in Grenoble, France, where 10 Canadian athletes will compete in the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final following a series of outstanding performances this season. Taking place from December 5 to 8, 2024, Canada will be represented by one pair team and two ice dance teams in the senior event, and two pair teams in the junior competition.

Leading the Canadian delegation will be 2023 Grand Prix Final bronze medallists Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps. The reigning World Champions captured gold medals at both Skate Canada International and the Finlandia Trophy this season, entering the Final as the top-ranked team in the senior pairs competition.

In senior ice dance, 2024 ISU World Figure Skating Championships silver medallists Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier will have their sights set on the podium after placing third at last year’s Grand Prix Final. The seasoned dance team earned a gold medal at Skate Canada International and silver at the Finlandia Trophy. Rounding out the senior Canadian contingent will be ice dancers Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha, who placed sixth in the same event last year. The dance duo earned their spot in the Final after capturing a silver medal at both Skate Canada International and the Cup of China.

The junior competition will see 2023 Grand Prix Final bronze medallists Jazmine Desrochers and Kieran Thrasher take to the ice in the pairs event. The team topped the podium at the 2024 Junior Grand Prix in Turkey and earned a silver medal at the circuit stop in Latvia. Joining them in the junior pairs event are Julia Quattrochi and Simon Desmarais, who will be making their Grand Prix Final debut in France after claiming bronze medals from the Junior Grand Prix stops in Czechia and Poland.

The 2024 Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final will be livestreamed for Canadian fans on CBC Sports.

Having injured/re-injured his ankle at the Cup of China, Adam Siao Him Fa has withdrawn from the GPF. He will be replaced by Mikhail Shaidorov who was first alternate. Adam has been advised to take a 3 week break with the aim of competing at Europeans.

Canadian Junior Pair Skaters Sit Second After First Day of ISU Grand Prix Final

Grenoble, France (December 5, 2024) – Jazmine Desrochers and Kieran Thrasher came into the ISU Grand Prix Final ranked second in the world in junior pair skating and maintained that standing after the first day of competition in Grenoble, France.

Last season’s bronze medallists at this competition, Desrochers of Mississauga, Ont., and Thrasher of Amherstburg, Ont., skated a strong program, registering two level four scores, but unfortunately had a fall on one of their throws that left them with a final score of 55.28. The Chinese pair of Jiaxuan Zhang and Yihang Huang finished the day with a score of 62.94 to lead the competition, while the American pair of OIivia Flores and Luke Wang sit in third with a score of 52.04.

“We’re proud of what we did (today). The throw was unfortunate, but it’s became a lot stronger of an element for us this year, so that’s why it’s more unfortunate, but overall, we’re happy with what we did. We did well and we’re proud of that,” said Desrochers following the competition.

Making their Grand Prix Final debut, Julia Quattrocchi of Laval, Que., and Simon Desmarais of Carignan, Que., finished the day in sixth place with a new personal best score of 47.70.

“At the beginning of the season, we didn’t expect to be here, we wanted at least one Grand Prix, and we got two plus a Final so we’re really grateful,” said Quattrocchi of their accomplishment after only starting to skate together last year and making their international debut this season.

Both teams will skate their free programs on the final day of the competition on Saturday. The senior ice dance competition will kick off Friday and feature the Canadian teams of Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier, and Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha.
