2022 Winter Olympics - Beijing, China - February 7-10 - Figure Skating (AFTER the team event)

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

In Pairs "news" - this is from Kirsten Moore-Towers via Twitter:
Legend, Tamara Moskvina, has been asking me for ‘something sparkly’ since Worlds 2021 (on more than one occasion). When I finally came through with a phone case in her favourite colour she said ‘what?! I said I wanted something?! Ugh. I say a lot of things.’ :lol:

We know how small Kirsten is - just look at how tiny Tamara is!!

OOPS - I forgot to post this information last night!!

The start order/results: https://results.isu.org/results/season2 ... SEG007.htm
And on the Olympic site: https://olympics.com/beijing-2022/olymp ... 00100-.htm

Live stream on CBC Gem: https://gem.cbc.ca/live/1996073027631

TSN1 started just after 6 a.m. with Tessa & Scott as special analysts adding to the commentary from Belinda & Olly; CBC will pick it up a little later, I believe, and will likely replay it later.

Thanks so much Elizabeth and good morning!! :) I am just checking in now anyway, and I appreciate it. I see CBC is kicking in at 6:45 a.m. I saw that Virtue & Moir were interviewed on prime time last night. I was on the phone with the sound on mute, but I plan to watch that interview with Scott Russell later as well.

There is an ice resurfacing after the 1st of 5 groups so the CBC coverage will be just in time for the final 4 groups, I guess, but they may not show them all.

Tessa & Scott were interviewed on The National last evening as well.

The top 20 go forward to the free dance

I'm still trying to find the one with Scott Russell from last night.

This is from: https://results.isu.org/results/season2 ... SEG008.htm - the live scores will be there during the competition. They will also be here: https://olympics.com/beijing-2022/olymp ... 00100-.htm

The CBC Gem live stream: https://gem.cbc.ca/live/1996113987722

The CBC TV coverage will be in the block of coverage beginning at 10 p.m.

It appears that the full event might be on Sportsnet in the block beginning at 8 p.m.

Here's the detailed time schedule for the free dance in Beijing time (13 hours ahead of ET) with the team from Ice Academy of Montreal (I.AM) highlighted. They have 50% of the teams who qualified for the free dance - only their Japanese team failed to qualify today.

So the Men's event and the Ice Dance event are now complete. Next up is the much anticipated Women's Short Program (SP) - for a number of reasons it may be "more anticipated" than it was a few days ago. The event is an evening one in Beijing (beginning at 6 p.m.) which makes it an early morning for those of us in the Eastern Time Zone - a 5 a.m. start.

The Start Order/Live results links: Normally the top 24 skaters would proceed to the free skate but, as has been posted in the Valieva thread, if she qualifies to the free skate, the ISU will add a 25th skater.

The detailed time schedule:
Image

CBC Gem live stream: https://gem.cbc.ca/live/1996187203820

Live Canadian TV broadcast appears to be on Sportsnet in their 5 to 6 a.m. and 6 to 10 a.m. blocks of Olympic coverage tomorrow morning (Feb. 15).

CBC TV is showing some coverage in their 6 to 8 a.m. time block but then they will move to hockey.

As I watch the Women this morning, I see that the statement at the bottom of the start order has now been revised to read:
Qualification rule: The best 24 skaters after Short Program will advance to the next segment. If VALIEVA Kamila (ROC) will be placed 1-24 after the Short Program (SP) the best 25 skaters after SP will advance to the next segment.
The Olympic site page has also been updated to say:
Qualification rule: The best 25 skaters after Short Program (SP) will advance to the next segment if VALIEVA Kamila (ROC) will be placed 1-24 after the SP. If not, the qualification rule with the best 24 skaters after SP will remain.

If you missed the Women's SP, it is available here: https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1996187203820

You can pause it and skip skaters or entire groups if you'd like.

Thanks. I managed to see it but woke up TOO early, lol.

What an honour for Keegan to be chosen to skate in the Gala when he came in 11th place. It just shows his appeal and popularity. People can relate to him as he's so down to earth.

The next event is the free skate for the Women - it begins at 5 a.m. tomorrow (Feb. 17th) in the Eastern Time zone. It should finish about 9 a.m. ET.

The Start Order/Live Results will be available in two locations:

The detailed time schedule (Beijing time) can be found here: https://results.isu.org/results/season2 ... hTimes.pdf

Live stream on CBC Gem: https://gem.cbc.ca/live/1996460611910
It appears that there will be some TV coverage on CBC TV in their 5-7 a.m. ET time slot but that does not permit time for the whole event. The event also appears on the TSN 5-10 a.m. ET time slot.

Vanessa James is going to be featured on CBC Toronto shortly...they said she's the only black figure skater at the Olympics this time and is a role model for others.

The Women's event finished today with some "drama" that was difficult to watch but there was actually a "podium" ceremony with mascot souvenirs given out - this happened due to the order of finish. I will not opine on the circumstances.

=====================

The final discipline to skate at the Beijing Olympics is the Pairs. They will skate their short programs early tomorrow morning (Eastern Time) – 5:30 a.m.

Usually the pairs are the first to skate and to finish a competition. I believe the Chinese hope for a gold medal in this event and have made it a headliner and put it in “primetime” in their time zone for both the short and free programs.

The start orders and live results can be found in two locations:
* https://olympics.com/beijing-2022/olymp ... 00100-.htm
* https://results.isu.org/results/season2 ... SEG005.htm

The link for the detailed time schedule: https://results.isu.org/results/season2 ... hTimes.pdf

There will be a live stream on CBC Gem: https://gem.cbc.ca/live/1996209731879

CBC TV schedule has this included in the 5:30 to 8 a.m.ET time block.
Sportsnet shows it in the 5 to 6 a.m. and the 6 to 11 a.m. time blocks.

As far as the Beijing Olympics are concerned, figure skating is almost over. Tomorrow morning (Eastern Time) we will have the final event - the Pairs Free Skate. The first warm-up will begin at 6 a.m. ET

CBC Gem live stream: https://gem.cbc.ca/live/1996236867895

CBC TV schedule is showing a 6 a.m. start and continuing into the next time block of their Olympic coverage.
It is also showing in the TSN schedule in the time block beginning at 6 a.m.

=======================

At the end of our day tomorrow (beginning @ 11 p.m. ET), there will be the Exhibition Gala. It is scheduled to be streamed live on CBC Gem but I don't know when or if CBC willl show it.

It appears that this will be shown on CBC TV on Sunday, February 20th - either from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. or from 4:15 to 6 p.m. ET with commentary by Kurt Browning, Dylan Moscovitch, Asher Hill & Brenda Irving.
