PyeongChang 2018 Olympics - FIGURE SKATING (excl. Team Event; including Pairs & Men))

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

Apparently Patrick's goals for the free skate were to have a clean program and to land a triple axel - I guess he succeeded in meeting those goals: https://www.sportsnet.ca/olympics/patri ... kate-upon/

He certainly looked happy when he and his girlfriend met with and were interviewed by Heather Hiscox of CBC News: Image

By the way, since we have a "day off" - I'm going to go ahead and start another thread which will be for the ice dance and the ladies.

Before I do, however, here's what Jackie Wong transcribed from the three men at the medalists' press conference after the FS:
Hanyu: Since my injury, I was quite fortunate to be able to skate here. I am indeed very happy to win the gold medal. More so than ever, the many skaters, the coaches, the supports - I really like to extend my appreciation to all of you.

Hanyu: I think I had to do what I could do at this moment. My injuries were more severe than I thought and I couldn't practice like I wanted to. Now that I won the gold, and I've been cheered by so many people, I really am blessed - I am really happy.

Fernandez: Today was super important for figure skating in Spain - a lot of people were watching, even if it was in the middle of the night.

Fernandez: There are a lot of figure skating idols in skating history - Yuzu is one of the skaters at this moment that you can watch & learn. He knows how to turn a bad moment into a good moment, and he never gives up. It's something that everyone can also learn.

Hanyu: There are many wonderful skaters out there - everyone is building the foundation for figure skating. Some have said I have been the pioneer, but I would like to negate that 100%. Jin's 4Lz inspired me to do it, the existence of Shoma really inspired me

Hanyu: Without Javi, I would not have come to Canada. Because of him, I was really able to incorporate the 4S and 4T in my program. Without him, training would have been so hard, I would not have been able to bear it.

Uno: Looking at today, there was no disappointment. It was not close to perfect, but I have been able to put my practices into action. I know that Olympics is special for many people with special emotions and stories, but I didn't have those attachements myself

Fernandez: I wasn't thinking about my popped 4S from Sochi. My 3rd quad is always the more difficult one. After I realized what I did, I tried to stay strong and skate the rest with no mistakes. It was too bad to look back to Sochi, but it was what it was.

Hanyu: I don't know yet [about Worlds]. My ankle injury isn't healed, so I pushed it hard for this competition. There are some elements I can't perform because of it but I pushed myself to do them here. For the rest of Oly, I think I'll be quite busy w the press

Uno: I'll be back in Japan and back to practice, and then come back to the Olympics later on. I'll practice for Worlds, that's where I stand right now

Fernandez: I'm thinking about going back to Spain tomorrow for media and to share my medal w my family. For Worlds, I haven't decided yet, it's something I want to talk to my coaches and see. I'm quite tired, so I'll see what happens. I don't know yet

Uno: Yuzuru Hanyu was my goal, and I work hard to be like him. He will be my eternal goal, the eternal idol for me

Uno: For me, the lack of media attention on me was good because it allowed me to focus on myself, so I hope it will continue for me. <laughter from the crowd>
