ISU 2021-2022 Grand Prix (general/overall)

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

Vanessa and Eric at SC Vancouver. Now I’m really hoping we will be allowed to attend.

I hope you can, Judy, and that you will tell us all about it from the "being there" perspective!! Although I am now considered fully vaccinated, I have no intention of doing any travel this year so I'll be watching everything online :|

I might attend, if time and conditions permit and if Angela might create a package.

I don't think I will either. Probably I'll try to go to Canadian Nationals 2022 if a package is offered, and then of course Worlds in Montreal in a couple of years.

Yes. I'm thinking about World's in Montreal too. Lets hope this "Never Endemic" will be over by then.

The ISU has announced that the Cup of China in November has been cancelled - they are looking for an alternative host according to this announcement:

https://www.isu.org/isu-news/news/125-g ... teParam=15
The ISU was informed of the cancellation of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating – Cup of China, that was scheduled to take place from November 4-7, 2021 in Chongqing (CHN).

Unfortunately, in view of the very limited international flights in all inbound cities in China and the relevant prevention restrictions in COVID-19, the concept of a "competition bubble" can not be realized. The ISU regrets that the hosting of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating – Cup of China is no longer viable and thanks the Chinese Figure Skating Association for their continued effort and support.

In order to maintain the 6 Events of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, leading to the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, which will take place in Osaka (JPN), on December 9-12, 2021, the ISU invited ISU Members who would be interested in hosting this event on the originally planned date (November 4-7, 2021), to apply for the event.

Further information will be provided in due course.

I understand that Italy has put in a bid to host the replacement for the cancelled Cup of China event in Turin/Torino.

The bid proposes the competition to take place at the Palavela in Turin from November 4-7.

Stay tuned....

The ISU has confirmed that the third GP event, formerly to be held in China, has been moved to Italy:

https://www.isu.org/isu-news/news/125-g ... teParam=15
Following the cancellation of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating – Cup of China, the International Skating Union is pleased to announce that the third event of the Series will be hosted on November 4-7, 2021 in Torino (ITA).
Following the decision, the ISU invited ISU Members interested in hosting the event at the given dates to apply. Three members submitted full applications; Debrecen (HUN), Norwood MA (USA) and Torino (ITA). The Council decided to award the Federazione Italiana Sport de Ghiaccio with the third ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating competition that will be held in Torino (ITA) on November 4 – 7, 2021.

Re Skate Canada international.

The COVID situation is not looking good in BC. Although the event is still two months away, I’m increasingly doubtful spectators will be allowed. Instead of progressing to stage 4, basically normalcy on September 7th as was planned, we have, in part, returned to stage 2, yet cases continue to rise. Masks will be required in schools for grade 4-12, which may prevent some transmission.

One positive is that the introduction of a vaccination passport in mid September has resulted in an increase in vaccination rates amongst the under 40s. And, FYI, our Provincial Health Officer, Dr Henry, is a strong supporter of sports.

The updated entries for the NHK Trophy as of Sept. 15th fill the "TBD" gaps representing Japan: https://results.isu.org/events/fsevent00110994.htm

The "host picks" for the Internationaux de France have now also been added to complete the fields in three disciplines:

Meanwhile in Canada...
Conrad Orzel has been added to the Skate Canada Men's event as a "host pick":
