Skating information sources online, including TV schedules

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

Skating information sources online, including TV schedules

Post by Elizabeth » Mon Oct 09, 2017 9:31 am

Some of the following links might be useful in following figure skating. [Updated in January 2019]

The International Skating Union(ISU) Figure Skating website: http://www.isu.org/figure-skating

Skate Canada website: https://skatecanada.ca/

US Figure Skating website: http://www.usfsa.org/default

NEW** - USFS Fan zone website: https://usfigureskatingfanzone.com/

TSN figure skating page with stories/videos, links to schedules, etc.: http://www.tsn.ca/figure-skating

PJ Kwong expanded her online coverage and "skating talk" in the Olympic season - read more here: http://pjkwong.com/skatingpj/
Be sure to follow her on the various platforms, including her YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfzmDO ... YIzfxm2KFA

In her post, PJ also mentions a couple of other excellent information sources:
  • Rocker Skating from Jackie Wong in the USA includes coverage of current events, including live commentary and videos: http://www.rockerskating.com/
Beverley Smith, formerly of the Globe & Mail, has a blog where she adds skating-related stories (as well as horse racing stories): https://bevsmithwrites.wordpress.com/ [It will automatically open to the most recent story but you can scroll down; you can also subscribe to get new entries via e-mail.]

For those who have an interest in numbers/scores - here's a site that you might enjoy: http://skatingscores.com/

I've added a few more links in the first post - perhaps you could "pin" this to stay at the top of the Skating section, Fred?

I've made it a "sticky" post, according to the lingo of phpBB boards. It's effectively pinned, I believe.

NBC (& affiliates) TV schedule - 2018/19 season

Post by Elizabeth » Mon Oct 01, 2018 3:27 pm

Note that only the events scheduled for NBC in the table below will be available to those of us in Canada. The NBCSN is only available via cable in the USA.

All the times listed are Eastern Time - Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November.

Canadian coverage of ISU championship events is defined by the CBC contract with the ISU - that has not traditionally included any coverage of the European Championships. Skate Canada's contract with CTV/TSN includes events organized by Skate Canada - that includes the Skate Canada Grand Prix competition and the Canadian championships which will take place in Saint John, NB in January.

As always, be sure to check your local TV schedule.
