2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games - Jan. 9-22 - Lausanne, SWI

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

Various countries have been announcing their teams for this event over the past few days.

The official announcement of the Canadian team has not yet been made but the following skaters do not appear on the start orders for the Canadian championships which makes it likely that they will be competing overseas: Aleksa Rakic; Catherine Carle; Brooke McIntosh/Brandon Toste; the 2 ice dance teams of Natalie D'Alessandro/Bruce Waddell & Miku Makita/Tyler Gunara

Natalie & Bruce have also posted about their assignment and preparations.

The schedule for the figure skating (Jan. 7-16) has been posted: https://isu.org/docman-documents-links/ ... edule/file

There is supposed to be a live stream of the competition (beginning on Jan. 10) but I am not sure of the link yet. It will probably be here: https://www.youtube.com/user/SkatingISU

Skate Canada's report after day 1 of the figure skating competition: https://skatecanada.ca/2020/01/rakic-in ... -olympics/

Skate Canada's report after day 2: https://skatecanada.ca/2020/01/canadian ... formances/

Skate Canada's report after day 3: https://skatecanada.ca/2020/01/two-four ... ter-games/

Competition continues Monday with the free dance and women’s free skate.

Results from the events already completed see a certain "consistency" of placement for the CDN skaters:

The ladies FS is still underway but I believe it will break the pattern.

The final figure skating component of the YOG will be the team event - these aren't national teams but apparently teams of the top skaters from all the national teams put together in some sort of draw.

Skate Canada's report on the final day of the non-team competition: https://skatecanada.ca/2020/01/dalessan ... he-podium/

Will any Canadian skaters get assigned to the teams for the free skate team event on Wednesday? Late yesterday that question was answered - almost all of the CDN skaters will participate; the only exception appears to be Aleksa Rakic who participated in the Junior Men events.

The eight multi-national teams are listed here (and in the image below): http://www.isuresults.com/results/seaso ... ntTeam.pdf

This means that, in the team free dance event, the two CDN couples will be competing against each other - one skating for Team Hope and one for Team Vision.

Wow, what great results for the Canadian team. There is obviously no shortage of promising new talents. Great, just great.

Liz Manley & Josee Chouinard are both talking with Ted Barton about the depth of talent at the novice level in Canada, not just the junior level. Building from the bottom up for the future is a very good thing :)
