2020 ISU World Championships - Montreal - 16-22 March - OFFICIALLY CANCELLED

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

People who put themselves on the mailing list for information about 2020 Worlds should be receiving an e-mail today about the pre-sale of tickets. There is a link in the e-mail that takes you to the sales site (not Ticketmaster) but it will only work from May 29, 2019 at 10 am ET through May 30, 2019 at 10 pm ET.

Regular sales for all-event tickets begin on May 31st.

Thanks for the info. Edited: Crossed fingers regarding the promos. I'll be at the event anyway and won't be watching TV. No I don't have a PVR yet as they are too expensive at present. I hope they do come through.

Thanks for the info. I think it's horribly embarrassing for Canada that a World Championship in their own country isn't being shown on TV. It means a lot of older people, particularly, won't be watching. I have a friend who watches, but she's in her 80's and doesn't even have a computer or know how to do that! I hope CBC changes their mind. It's too bad CTV wasn't able to pick it up as they do such a good job of the Skate Canada and Nationals. The last thing we need is for the sport to become less popular in Canada. Out of sight, out of mind!! :(
You didn't read to the end of my message - I have seen promotions on TV for coverage of Worlds on CBC; they just haven't posted a schedule yet. Be patient!

I understand that ticket distribution to those who bought their tickets directly, ie. not through a group, is supposed to begin tomorrow, January 31st.

If you ordered your tickets for Worlds directly and requested electronic delivery, the e-mails are being reported as being received today. Several folks found them in their "junK" folders, so be sure to check there! They are obviously not junk :D

Beware the Fanyus!

I'm sure you've seen it "raining Pooh" whenever Yuzuru Hanyu competes, this article from Australia looks into the "Fanyu" phenomenon in more detail - https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-01-25/ ... n/11869108

I've seen some of them in person and hope I'm not sitting in the midst of them in Montreal, especially if it happens to be the ones who are becoming quite militant against the ISU for what they perceive to be bias against him in the scoring, particularly in the most recent Grand Prix Final.

By the way, it appears from his ISU biography that, heading into the Four Continents Championships, Yuzuru has decided to bring back two well-used programs - Chopin Ballade No 1 for the SP and Seimei for the FS. It will be his fourth time using that SP (used in the 2015, 2016 and 2018 seasons) and third time for the FS (used in 2016 and 2018).

Repeating programs, especially multiple times, is not something that many fans would favour. I'm not sure about the attitude of the judging panel. What is behind this decision is what makes me scratch my head. He has been quite vocal about achieving the 4 Axel. Is he going back to a "comfortable pair of shoes" as part of his effort to increase the technical difficult while retaining the muscle memory of a familiar program? Is it related to the fact that he has never won the 4CCs? I guess we'll just have to wait & see.

A reminder about who is eligible to be entered to compete at Worlds -
Skaters are eligible for the 2020 World Championships if they turned 15 years of age before July 1, 2019 and have met the minimum technical elements score requirements. The ISU accepts scores if they were obtained at senior-level ISU-recognized international competitions at least 21 days before the first official practice day of the championships. The ISU raised the minimum for ladies' singles in both segments on January 8, 2020.

Minimum technical scores (TES)
Discipline - SP/RD - FS/FD
Men - - - - - 34 - - - - 64
Ladies - - - 30 - - - - 51
Pairs - - - - 27 - - - - 44
Ice dance - 33 - - - - 47

Must be achieved at an ISU-recognized international event in the ongoing or preceding season.
SP/RD and FS/FD scores may be attained at different events.

For a listing of "how many" from each of the member countries, you'll find it on the Wikipedia page where the above information appears: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Worl ... mpionships
