ISU Jr. Grand Prix 2018/19 - Overview; event #1; qualifying for GPF

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

And here is the SP of the young Russian lady who is leading going into the FS: https://youtu.be/FOzD7vSJkCY

The sole CDN young lady is sitting within the top 10 and in a group whose SP scores are all quite close.

Hi again. The youtube channel for the live stream is saying the Men's FS starts at 5:00 a.m. I'm not sure what time zone that is. I thought it was to be at 8:00 a.m. ET based on the post above, so that's what I'm sticking to. 5:00 is too early anyway, lol. I thought I'd mention it just in case.

For someone who is prevented (by his coaches) from practicing his quads very much, to prevent injuries, Stephen certainly was able to deliver three of them in his FS today, one in combination! According to the protocols they were all fully rotated: http://www.isuresults.com/results/seaso ... Scores.pdf

Congratulations to this young man on winning a gold medal at his very first Junior Grand Prix!!

Stephen's free skate video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9MDTD2q6WU

The free skate of Alexsa Rakic, the other CDN: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlU6FEeZAMs

After the pairs free skate they had the medal ceremonies for the pairs and the men. Using the new style, they went 3-2-1 rather than the 1-2-3 of the past. The three Russian pairs got to hear their anthem before photos, etc. while "We are the champions" played in the arena.

Then they went to the men...

In a very sad "OOOOOPS moment", the audience was asked to stand for the national anthem of the winner and then the silence began, and went on, and on, and on - people shuffled their feet, looked at each other and the silence continued.... Eventually the announcer said "Ladies and gentlemen, these are your winners" (or perhaps "medalists") and they started playing "We are the champions" as everyone assembled for photos!!! :( :(

At least the CDN team leader had a flag for him for the "photo op"!!
Image

According to a Eurosport announced via Twitter:
In #Bratislava, Stephen #Gogolev has landed three different quads (4Lz/4T/4S). The thirteen year old canadian is the first skater in history to land three different quads in the junior category and even the youngest to land a quadruple jump in a #ISU competition

That's a great shot!! Thanks for posting it! I love the screenshots too!

Just editing to say that it's only a matter of time before Patrick Chan's record of the youngest Canadian champion will be broken. It might even happen this year. He's better than Nam isn't he? I was going to look up his marks at the latest competition but haven't had a chance yet. What is the age to compete at senior worlds...15? I know we've talked about this before but it's slipped my mind unless 15 is right, haha.

Although I guess we can't really compare a senior event to junior one completely, here are their final point totals in summary...

At GTSA Summer Skate:
Nam: 262.11
Keegan: 242.07

JGP: Stephen 226.63

This will be an interesting Nationals in January. Guess those are "likely" to be the top 3.

Well, off to bed..."early" start tomorrow.
