Breaking news regarding 2018/19 ISU events in China

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

Breaking news regarding 2018/19 ISU events in China

Post by Elizabeth »

E-mail messages are apparently being received around the world that the JGP and GP events scheduled to take place in China this season are being relocated. Reason(s) unknown/unreported. Not fully confirmed by anything on the ISU website yet.

Note the JPG event moved from China to Canada (with new dates):
"The Chinese Skating Association (CSA) has informed the ISU that they are unable to host any ISU Event during the season 2018/19. Consequently, the ISU Council is pro-actively working on replacing the previously planned ISU Events in China, if possible in the same Asia/Pacific area.

* ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating (including Pair Skating), originally planned to be held in Harbin/China on September 19-22, 2018, now to be held in Vancouver, Canada, on September 12-15, 2018.

* ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, originally planned to be held as Cup of China in China, preferably to be held in the Republic of Korea on November 2-4, 2018.

* Shanghai Trophy, originally planned to be held on September 29-October 1, 2018 in Shanghai/China, cannot be replaced and the season 2018/19 edition is cancelled. "

My that's,... harsh. I wonder why the Chinese can't do this. Supposedly we'll learn more as Time goes by. Thanks, Elizabeth.

The official rationale from: http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/2018-0 ... 251769.htm
BEIJING, June 13 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Skating Association (CSA) confirmed on Wednesday that China will not host any International Skating Union (ISU) event during the 2018-19 season.

A source from the CSA confirmed that five ISU events during the 2018-19 season in China will not be hosted as planned, including the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating, the Shanghai Trophy, the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating, the ISU World Cup Speed Skating and the ISU Short Track World Cup.

"There are two reasons for our quitting hosting events temporarily," a source with the CSA said. "First of all, every national team in ice sports needs to 'go out' more and better integrate themselves into international training and competition systems," the source said.

"Secondly, the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics is coming up. A lot of venues will be renovated and cannot be used to host events in the planned time. We tried our best but can't make it in the end," the source added.

According to the source, quitting hosting events will give them enough time to be well-prepared for hosting events more effectively in the future.

That's unfortunate. Especially for the one that can't be re-accommodated.

I agree this sounds suspicious.
