ISU Congress - June 4-8 - Seville, Spain

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

This will be a significant Congress, particularly in terms of the proposals being considered. Read all about it, including a summary of the proposals, in this preview: https://www.isu.org/news/145-news/12087 ... teParam=15

Note that there are general proposals, proposals for both short- and long-track speed skating, and proposals for single & pairs skating and ice dance. Some of the proposals come from ISU Committees while others are from national organizations.

For the first time the congress will be live streamed on the ISU YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/SkatingISU/

The Congress live stream is now available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnoee4z ... e=youtu.be

I am told that the "urgent proposals" regarding raising the minimum age of skaters and the participation of federation presidents on judging panels did not receive approval for inclusion on the agenda of the meeting.

The Congress is now complete. A synopsis of the decisions is available here: https://www.isu.org/news/145-news/12111 ... teParam=15

There are also links to the summaries for each of the 4 days.

A few of the changes/decisions that may be of interest:
  • approval to increase the number of pairs to 20 for the free skate (from 16) at Worlds
  • medal ceremonies will move to the Olympic-style, starting with the bronze, then silver, then gold
  • renamed the short dance to the rhythm dance
  • increase the range of Grade of Execution marks from the current -3 to +3 to -5 to +5
  • no change to the current lower age limit of 15
The election results: https://www.isu.org/news/145-news/12112 ... teParam=15
Benoit Lavoie of Canada was elected as a figure skating member of the ISU Council.
