Nebelhorn Trophy, Oberstdorf, GER - 20-25 Sept. 2021

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

This event is not only a Challenger Series event, but it is the only 2022 Olympic qualifying competition, i.e. the event at which the remaining country spaces left from the quota available for the 2022 Olympics can be "won".

The list of entries, by discipline, the schedule, etc. will be posted here: http://www.isuresults.com/events/fsevent00110963.htm

Roman Sadovsky has been selected by Skate Canada to try to gain a 2nd spot for Canadian men according to the international event assignment page of Skate Canada: https://skatecanada.ca/events/#tab-id-2
2021 Nebelhorn Trophy - SEPTEMBER 21-25, 2021 - OBERSTDORF, GERMANY - MEN: ROMAN SADOVSKY

I’m emotional attached to all three top Canadian men and don’t even want to think of one of them, or possibly two, not going to Olympics.
Suppose it is good for sport that they have to complete with each other to earn that ticket but I want all three there!

What I’ve seen of Roman over the past year has really impressed me, especially his speed and edge quality. Nam has worked so hard to regain his former glory, and Keegan, well, I think we all love him for a hundred reasons.

From IFS Magazine via Twitter:
U.S. Figure Skating announced today that Alysa Liu and Vincent Zhou have been selected to compete for the two Olympic berths at 2021 Nebelhorn Trophy.
They will be attempting to confirm/earn a third spot for the USA in the events for Women & Men at the 2022 Olympics. As I understand it, Liu will have to finish among top six Women of the countries eligible to gain an Olympic spot at Nebelhorn; Zhou will need to finish among top seven Men.

An explanation from Jackie Wong (RockerSkating) on Twitter:
At NebelhornTrophy 2021, here are the number of spots available to qualify for the Olympics:
* Men: 7
* Women: 6
* Pairs: 3
* Dance: 4

Within each discipline, a country looking to qualify a spot has to finish within the top [# spots] among ONLY the countries also looking to qualify a spot for Beijing 2022

The very BIG competition this week takes place in the lovely mountain locale of Oberstdorf - this is the ONLY qualifier for the Beijing 2022 Olympics so there is much on the line for those selected to represent their countries.

The current entry list by discipline (includes identified official alternates; still subject to last minute changes): http://www.isuresults.com/events/fsevent00110963.htm

The latest practice and competition schedule: https://eislauf-union.de/files/users/97 ... -09-17.pdf

Someone has done a handy worldwide time conversion for the Nebelhorn events & posted it on Twitter - EDT would be that for New York City.

There were some technical problems with the live stream and we missed the first 2 skaters in the Men's SP.

There is commentary in English for the Men and Women by Nico Ulanovsky, a former German skater, now a coach in Oberstdorf. There is a different commentator for the pairs and ice dance - a German junior ice dancer, Michail Savitskiy, who admitted on Thursday that he didn't know that much about pairs! :o In fact, I think he bailed out of doing the commentary for the Pairs FS today and Niko stepped in part way through the event.

Two of the disciplines completed their competitions today and medals were awarded at the end of another long day - Pairs and Men.

If you don't want to know how things turned out, especially with respect to the available Olympic spots, don't go any further....
