Thanks for the information. It will sure feel weird not to be at the event this year after going to Halifax and Ottawa. I will enjoy watching the live streaming from the comfort of my home.

Kittykins - the live streaming is only available for the Novice & Junior events (and possibly some senior events) that are not on TV. As far as I know, TSN does not live stream in the way that CBC does; at least they never have before. The TV coverage is apparently limited to TSN + CTV2 - there is nothing listed for the main CTV network for this rather important event!

Thank you. Yes, I remember that CTV is rather selfish with their coverage compared to CBC. What is CTV2? I don't recall that one.

In some areas CTV/Bell Media took over local, independent stations and renamed them CTV TWO (or CTV2) - for example, in Ottawa what is now called CTV was formerly CJOH; CTV2 was another, local station with a different "call sign". They have consecutive channel numbers but they use CTV2 for "second tier" broadcasts. For example, the main CTV network carries "Your Morning" (formerly Canada AM) on weekday mornings while CTV2 may have a local newsy broadcast on in that time slot, here it's called "CTV Morning Live Ottawa". The main CTV network has an 11 p.m. national news broadcast; that is not carried on CTV TWO.

I'm afraid that the skating being put over to CTV2 may mean that it's not available in some parts of the country; a similar situation to some of the TSN channels.

That's awful. Another thing I've done with other events is to sign in to the TSN streaming using my provider name and password. This is good if you are out of town and what you are paying for at home. However, if there's a problem with the TV transmission, it's worth a try also. I just tried it and it works if your provider is listed. It will work for skating too but hopefully they offer some free live streaming as well. Who knows with CTV/TSN.

I noticed on another discussion board that they are considering doing away with Intermediate and juvenile skaters at US Nationals. We've always had a separate nationals for the younger skaters haven't we? They are citing injury but isn't the experience of "a" nationals good for younger skaters also?

In recent years the Canadian national championships have included Novice, Junior and Senior level skaters. For skaters below Novice, there is no national championship per se but the Challenge event serves as the championship for pre-novice skaters; and juvenile skaters only participate through sectionals. The situation has varied over the years. Information about the current qualifying structure in Canada is here: https://skatecanada.ca/athletes/qualifying-structure1/

This Wikipedia entry provides lots of history of past champions at various levels but the Junior information only begins in 2006 and Novice in 2007: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_ ... mpionships

Look for changes from Virtue & Moir, particularly in the free dance: https://bevsmithwrites.wordpress.com/20 ... rix-final/

According to a tweet from International Figure Skating magazine:
Patrick Chan planning one quad toe in SP, two quad toes in LP. Ravi Walia will be at boards with him at nationals. Walia and Oleg Epstein will be with him at Olympics.

Thanks Elizabeth. Well, staying up to 2:30 a.m. has its drawbacks...somehow managed to get 7 hours sleep afterwards. I used to do better with such things. Now I can get up EARLY but not stay up late. So, I may be catching up after the fact for some of the later events. I think if going to B.C. in the future, I'd be wise to go a few days in advance to adjust to the 3 hour time difference. I can't believe I'm getting so soft!

I enjoyed the events yesterday and the camaraderie between Debbi and Ted. They are funny. Most of the texters seemed to be from Ontario, but they did get someone from Australia tuning in.

The Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre is an interesting location to hold our national championships, in a number of ways.

In Ottawa we've had squirrels running around (and things falls from the ceiling onto the ice,) in Paris at Bercy they have a now-famous pigeon. Here it's a different sort of "wild life".

If you heard a scream or two during the skate of Matthew Markell in Junior Men's, it might not have been related to what was happening on the ice. Reports are that there were two arena staff with buckets trying to catch Thunderbird Rat aka Thunderbird Ben.

Someone has captured a photo of him..
https://imgur.com/a/s6vLS

I know several people who have seen him but so far I haven't. However, where there's one, there are likely more....
