ISU GP - NHK Trophy 2017

This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.

Thanks for the info. I imagine I'll be watching the highlight show if I'm able.

Robin Cousins tweeted out this afternoon that Coomes & Buckland are on their way to Japan to participate in the NHK Trophy, apparently as a last minute replacement for one of the ice dance teams. No word yet as to which one.

According to ice-dance.com via Twitter, it is Tobias & Tkachenko who dropped out and are being replaced by Coomes & Buckland.

There are reports, in Japanese, that Yuzuru Hanyu took a hard fall on the quad lutz during practice in Osaka and appeared to hurt his leg or ankle. He left the ice for a time but returned to do a jump-free run-through.

Tweeted by ISU Figure Skating just before the start of the Pairs short:
YuzuruHanyu has withdrawn from NHKTrophy2017 due to injury. Hanyu suffered an injury to his right ankle. We wish him a quick recovery.
It was reported that he didn't practice on Friday but he really wanted to try to compete and was very unhappy when he announced his decision.

From IceNetwork:
Coach Ghislain Briand clarified that Hanyu withdrew because of injuries to his knee and ankle.

Official statement from Yuzuru Hanyu:
Thank you for your concerns. Despite the doctors working hard on my injury to participate in NHK trophy, I have made the decision to withdraw per the doctors orders. I will concentrate on treatment and recovery and focus on competing in Japan Nationals. Thank you very much for your support.

Thanks Elizabeth. I feel so sorry for Hanyu. I was unimpressed with the coverage this afternoon on CBC as they showed highlights of Nam's performance and only the gold medalists in the Pairs. If you try to find the live stream recording then you find out the results as they've plastered them all over the place. I will try to get these on FS vids to watch the whole thing without commentary.

Thanks Elizabeth for those links. I wish I had time to watch them, but there are so many demands on my time these days. I already heard on the radio who won. I don't mind.

It is pretty hard to avoid hearing/seeing results, sometimes from the most unexpected sources :)

CBC has shorter "snippets" of video online if you just want to see the "news". As kittykins mentioned, however, the labels used tend to give away the results.

I watched most of this competition live but have to confess to "napping" through some of it - the time difference to the far east is pretty brutal. The final two GP events are in France and Lake Placid, NY which should be better. Then it's back to Japan for the GPF and I have other plans on that weekend that will prevent me from pulling "all-nighters".
