This is where we discuss figure skating and skating related items. How did you favourite skaters perform, and so on? However we never speculate on the private lives of skaters, like who might be going out with whom, because that is poison and is not tolerated here. A good guideline is that if it's not publicly announced, in the papers etc. then it's probably best to leave it alone. Is it a gray area? Then write to me and ask.
From IFS Magazine on Twitter (based on a Skate Canada press release):
Patrick Chan to make announcement regarding his future career plans on Sunday, April 15, 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Flat Rock Cellars, 2727 Seventh Avenue, Jordan, ON.
FYI - Patrick is already in a business relationship with Flat Rock Cellars, including his ice wine, "On Ice".
Given the long advance notice, speculation is rife online about what he will announce, going from the "sublime to the ridiculous"
I’m bringing my gold medal to Flat Rock Cellars @winemakersboots this Saturday, April 14th from 1-2PM! All are welcome, so come join me and spend an afternoon touring the winery.
Will Patrick say anything about his future plans???? This appears to be the "big announcement"....
Posted on Twitter today by Flat Rock Cellars:
2011 Patrick Chan Sparkling Blanc de Blancs won some really big awards. @Pchiddy will be at Flat Rock Cellars on Sat, April 14th from 1-2pm to re-release his bubbly! Stop in to say hi and get a bottle autographed!
After his sparkling wine was re-released (without a visit to the vineyard due to the ice storm), he has announced his retirement according to this Skate Canada press release: https://skatecanada.ca/2018/04/skating- ... mpetition/
"It has been an honour and a privilege to skate for Canada," said Chan. "It has given me memorable experiences and has taught me lessons I will carry throughout life. I have fulfilled my dreams and aspirations in competitive skating and it is now time to move on to new challenges and opportunities. I hope to have inspired many young skaters that with hard work, perseverance and dedication anything is possible."
Chan, who made his international debut in 2006 at age 15 and was a world junior silver medallist the following year, will compete in shows rather than competitions. He also plans to get his commercial real estate licence and last fall moved to Vancouver, where his girlfriend, former pairs skater Elizabeth Putnam, lives.
"I have a life outside of skating," Chan, who also enjoys biking and hiking, said in 2017.

Chan is the latest in a long line of Canadian men who have made the leap from figure skating champion to figure skating legend. The difference between the two is that champions win titles, while legends change the sport in some way.
In Patrick Chan's perfect future, he's running a skating school in Vancouver with girlfriend Liz Putnam, the two are living in a million-dollar apartment in the city's lovely Kitsilano neighbourhood, and he's enjoying a wildly successful career in commercial real estate.
"I'm just running around town doing what I want to do, and moving on with a huge smile on my face. I feel good and light," Chan said, ahead of Monday's retirement announcement.
"I had three or four things lined up that I wanted to just learn about, and that's what I'm doing. I'm meeting people and picking their brain and understanding what life is like. I don't think I had any sense of that when I was in the competitive world. It's awesome. I'm just a sponge again. I'm just absorbing and learning."
Now we know. He surely looked happy and relaxed. I wish Patrick well and hope to see him in skating shows where he can do what he does best: just let the music take him to wonderful skating moves, although as mentioned elsewhere shows are far and few between. We will miss him despite some frustrating moments during his career.
Well, we all knew this was coming but it makes me sad all the same.
I don't approve of alcohol so I'm unlikely to find out much about this new wine of his. He also talked about coaching as one of his options.
Well, I wish him all the best in the future. It's sad that the Chan Era is gone, but the bottom line it was sort of over a while ago. However, glad he stuck with it long enough to get that Team Gold medal.
"At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more, When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death, And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again.” (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis)
The CBC has posted a link to something in their Archives that might be of interest - a profile for The National of an "up and coming" Patrick Chan from 10 years ago: https://t.co/2VCH21hwrb
Patrick was recently interviewed by Ian Hanomansing an the highlights will be on tonight's The National on CBC. A photo taken during the interview: https://www.instagram.com/p/BhpMzfgFiNQ/
By the way, I don't believe it is a "new wine" but rather a re-release of a successful sparkling wine that already bore his name. There is also an ice wine, as I posted at the beginning of this thread.
